Dragonball GT: Lost Episodes [1] Reaction

What are the Lost Episodes? Dragonball GT is the sequel to Dragonball Z, and the last series in the trilogy. The so called "Lost Episodes" are the first 16 episodes to the series and are really not lost at all. When FUNimation began dubbing GT they decided to skip over all of these episodes and start with the episodes that were more like Dragonball Z. When GT first started it was so much different than DB/Z, many disliked the show and went on to something else. They quickly changed the show and thus FUNimations skipped these episodes, calling them the Lost Episodes. Fans were upset and asked for them to be dubbed anyways, and here we are.

What's it About? 10 years have passed since Goku and Uub left to train in the lookout. Goku soon finds himself helpless against the mystical power of the Dragon Balls when he is accidently wished to be a child by none other than Emperor Pilaf! After the wish is made this new set of Dragon Balls scatters not around the Earth but the entire galaxy. If not collected within a year the Earth will explode! Goku along with Trunks and Pan blast off in search of the balls, and stumble upon new friends, ferocious enemies, and extraordinary beings never encountered before.

Plot 2/5
The plot was almost like a combination of the early Dragonball series and it's sequel Dragoball Z. However, it was executed horribly and filled with many plot holes. Throughout the disc you feel like somethings missing or has gone wrong, and this was my reaction to the endless plot holes I was trying to ignore so I could enjoy the disc.

Animation 4/5
Smooth, well done drawings with enjoyable fight sequences. My only complaint with this is a strong similarity to the character's faces and the shiny greasy-looking skin. It wasn't all that bad, just looked different than the previous series.

Dubbing 5/5
Personally, I didn’t see anything wrong with it. The voices, as always, matched the characters nicely. The sounds of Pilafs Robots were great. The Ki blasts shot by various characters fit well, too. My main and only complaint would be the music. I was expecting some of the original songs from the Japanese version tranlated into English, but with that aside it was excellent.

Overall 3/5
This was a good start to the series, but there are definetly more entertaining saga’s seen later in the series. This DVD contained a lot of setup and was actually more enjoyable than the second lost episodes disc.
