Renji Abarai
Vice Captain of the 6th Division

Back Story: A cocky guy but looks out for his comrades. Since a young age, Renji grew up in the 78th District in Rukongai and acted as a thief with his friends. During one incident in thievary, he met Rukia who helped him out in the situation. Rukia became part of the gang and Renji and Rukia became close. As the years gradually went by, their friends one by one died and Renji and Rukia were left. Standing on a hill side they both declared that they want to become Soul Reapers. At the Soul Reaper Academy, Renji showed great talent in Zansetsu but back fired in Kidô. During his training he met Momo Hinamori and Izuru Kira and became close friends with them. As he progressed Renji heard news that Rukia was to be took in by the Kuchiki family under Byakuya. Renji was so pleased that Rukia managed to get so far and accepted into a noble family but deep down he was jealous and knew that his friendship with her might start to dissapear now. Working even harder he managed to graduate and was accepted into the 5th Division under Sousuke Aizen. But due to Renji being aggressive and displaying cocky attitudes he was taken out and placed into the 11th Division under Kenpachi Zaraki. Within the Division he became friends with Ikkaku Madarame and the both of them became sparring partners teaching each other new techniques. Eventually after so long he showed enough skill to make him the Vice Captain of the 6th Division under Byakuya Kuchiki. From this point on, Renji vowed that he will surpass Byakuya and beat him one day.

Zanpaku-to: His Zanpaku-to, Zabimaru is a Katana. With the Initial release chant, "Howl" Zabimaru's shape changes into a jagged edged sword which the blade is split up into sections and can extend for long distance fighting. His Final release, "Bankai! Hihiou Zabimaru" transforms Zabimaru into a large snake. It's length is doubled and it's size is vast doubling it's destruction. Zabimaru's drastic change in it's Final Release causes Renji to form a furry jacket with a skull on over his shoulders.

Agent Of The Soul Reaper Series: Alongside Byakuya, he traveled to the Living World to capture Rukia. Upon finding her, he had to go through Ichigo in the process. Laughing at Ichigo's lack of knowledge with his Zanpaku-to, Renji proved to him what it's meant to do using his Initial release. Watching Ichigo crumble to his knees, he suddenly gained a strong power and caught Renji off guard shedding blood. Now on the defensive side he had to block Ichigo's attacks until Byakuya decided to cut in easily beating Ichigo with one attack. Taking Rukia, they went back to Soul Society leaving Ichigo for dead.

Soul Society: The Sneak Entry Series: Renji was not happy on the idea of Rukia being placed on Death Row and tried to keep her company. But soon had to be called out due to the intruders invading Soul Society. Recieving the order of kill on sight and allowing maximum power, Renji heard rumours of who the intruders were. Traveling to the Shrine Of Penitence, he told Rukia that one of them has Orange hair and a Zanpaku-to as tall as he is. Renji knew it was Ichigo and awaited at the base of the Shrine Of Penitence knowing he would come through this way soon enough. His patience paid off as Ichigo soon arrived and a battle begun. Toying with Ichigo at the beginning he noticed Ichigo had got stronger and unleashed his Initial release and told Ichigo of how before he was surpressing his Spiritual energy and that now he had permission to use his maximum power. Easily beating Ichigo with mulitple swings from Zabimaru he took Ichigo down. Raising his Zanpaku-to to attack, Ichigo managed to get up and raised his Zanpaku-to aswell. An unnerving glare was seen in Ichigo's eyes and a rush of power came from him and he stated that he will win, not being a fool Renji swung his Zanpaku-to down but in a flash Zabimaru was smashed to pieces and his shoulder burst into blood. Collapsing he couldn't understand how he lost and fell at Ichigo's feet. In an last effort of strength, he grabbed Ichigo, lifted himself up and pleaded to him, even though it's an unforgivable thing to do, to save Rukia with everything he's got. Ichigo agreed and Renji fell unconsious. He was then treated and escorted to prison under Byakuya's order.

Soul Society: The Rescue Series: Finally regaining his strength he broke out of prison and beat up any Soul Reaper who stepped in his way. He set out to find Ichigo. Tracing his Spiritual Energy, Renji found Ichigo training in underground inside a large training room with Yoruichi. Telling Ichigo of Rukia's execution date, he began training alongside Ichigo and said he is near obtaining Final release. Succeeded in such a task he set off first to save Rukia leaving Ichigo behind. Along the way he came across Byakuya who asked of where he was going. Telling him he was to save Rukia, Byakuya did not accept the answer and tried to kill Renji with one attack which Renji blocked. Telling him the day had arrived that he finally got stronger than Byakuya, he showed him his newly aquired Final release. Using Hihiou Zabimaru he kept Byakuya on his toes and looked as though he was going to win bringing Byakuya to his knees, until Byakuya decided to get serious and trapped Renji down with a Bakuro Kidô spell and unleashed his own Final release onto Renji, completely destroying the surrounding area and ripping Renji to pieces. With determination he managed to go for one final attack but Byakuya easily destroyed it and left Renji to die. Regaining consiousness he saw Hanataro healing him and next to him was Rikichi. He wanted Renji to succeed and gave Renji and new pair of clothes. Fully recovered he got up and headed towards the Sogyoku before it was too late. Just in time, Ichigo had saved Rukia and tossed her over to him. Renji had Rukia and made a run for it leaving Ichigo to deal with the rest. Thinking he had got away he was stopped by Kaname. Kaname used an unnusual technique to warp himself, Renji and Rukia back to the Sogyoku. Renji and Rukia were back where they started and it was quiet. But he then saw Sousuke and Gin walk towards him. Surprised to see Sousuke alive he suddenly heard Isane message about his betrayel. Sousuke asked for Renji to let Rukia go, but he held on tight. Renji unsheathed his Zanpaku-to and tried to fight but was no match. Still holding onto Rukia he was just about to see death but Ichigo appeared blocking Sousuke's attack. Telling Ichigo a plan, Renji used a technique of his, Higa Zekkou to attack Sousuke and for Ichigo to attack in that opening. It all went to plan except that Ichigo's attack was blocked by a un-hurt Sousuke who took Ichigo down with one attack. Then suddenly appeared behind Renji taking him out with one attack. No one was left. Sousuke succeeded in getting what he was after and was just about to kill Rukia when all the Captains arrived. Sousuke, Gin and Kaname then left for Hueco Mundo and Renji recieved Medical treatment. When everything had calmed down and Renji was healthy he made an apology to Byakuya for what he did. With three spaces now left for a Captain position, Renji found Ikkaku and asked him to take place as one of the Captains, seeing as he can use Final release. But was given a negative response.

!Anime Only! The Bount Series: Renji was placed as the Soul Reaper to secure Karakura Town from Hollows for a period of time. Appearing in the Living World, Renji traced Ichigo's Spiritual energy and went to his school shouting his name. Making Ichigo come out of class to talk to him, Renji told Ichigo that he wanted to meet up and help against the Hollows. Later that night he felt a Hollows presence and alerted Ichigo. To their surprise they found a large gate resembling the gates of hell with three people on top of it dissapearing into the distance. The next day he recieved a mysterious phone call asking to play a game for their lives. Doing what they are told, they learn that Orihime is a fake and she takes Yasutora through the gates. At school the next day they are told that one of them is a fake and have to find out who it is by noon. Managing to figure it out it was too late and Renji along with Ichigo and Uryû had to confront them. Sucked into the gate they had to save Yasutora and Orihime. Upon winning they find out it was all a hoax created by Kisuke to fight once again as a team. Now knowing that the true fight is against a group called the Bount, Renji decided to live with Kisuke to find out more. After Uryû was involved in a fight with the Bount and placed in hospital, Renji tagged along and stayed with Uryû and his friends in case the Bount appeared. The Bount did appear and used their Dolls to control water. They grabbed Uryû and made their escape. Being chased by water, Renji tried cutting it down and even using Kidô spells to destroy the water but it didn't work. Making it outside they find it raining and the Bount's Ho and Ban standing infront of them. Renji, Ichigo and Rukia attacked the heavy ammounts of water but couldn't win and soon suffered an ability of swallowing their Dolls and being crushed from the inside. Luckily they were saved by Yasutora and the Konpaku Nova. Upon the defeat of Ho and Ban, Renji worked along side the others to fight the Bount and try and find Uryû who had dissapeared. Failing in fighting against the Bount, Renji and Ganju decided to take Ichigo down into Kisuke's underground training ground to do a two vs one sparring fight. Renji noticed that Ichigo hasn't been himself lately and was dissapointed by his attitude before leaving. Taking on the Bount himself Renji was finding it difficult to fight against. Not being able to unleash his full potential he could of suffered a fatal injury until he was saved by Jinta and Ururu. He was taken back to the Urahara shop to be healed by Hanataro. Teaming up with Ichigo once more they took off to a cave leading to the Bount's whereabouts. Traveling through they find Izuru and Shuhei unconcious and are then split up by a cave in. Going deeper and deeper, Yumichika is found unconcious aswell but also is confronted by the Bount Ugaki and it's Dolls true form. Renji now taking things seriously unleashes his Final release Hihiou Zabimaru and managed to cause mayhem as he fought. Looking like he's going to win, Ugaki causes destruction and causes a giant cave in burying Renji within rubble. Finally managing to break free and emerge, Renji takes off to Soul Society to follow the Bount.

Arrancar Influx Series: Being chosen as part of Toushiro's party to journey to the Living World to help fight against the Arrancar, Renji travels along side to meet Ichigo in school. Later that day they meet him once more in Ichigo's room and explain to him that they are to help against the Arrancar. Soon enough, the heavens break and the Arrancar emerge in Karakura Town. Quickly taking action, Renji takes out his Zanpaku-to and leaves to face one of them. Confronting Illforte, he immediatly unleashes his Final release and attacks. Proving no match, Hihiou Zabimaru is continously blocked and Renji keeps suffering wounds. Trying to think of a new fight path, Ururu suddenly appears and deals a fatal blow to Illforte in one attack. Renji absolutely shocked at such an attack from a little girl, he sees Illforte reveal his Initial release, transforming into an armoured bull. Now knowing how an Arrancar uses Initial release, he witnessed Ururu suffer a horn from Illforte through her chest. Jinta then jumps in and grabs Ururu and tries to inflict damage to Illforte but is saved by Renji. Telling him to go, Renji tries to back Illfporte off. But his Final release is no match and slowly starts being blown apart. Suffering from many injuries, Renji can't seem to fight back but luck is on his side as he recieves order that he is allowed to break his limit. Finally, Renji breaks his limitations he had and powers up to his maximum potential. Now things were on his side as he quickly blows off Illforte's horns. Saying that his power has now risen atleast four times, his attacks are starting to show fatigue on Illforte as he struggles to push them back. Illforte sees that he is going to have to retreat and makes a run for it, but Renji not allowing the option uses a new technique, Higa Taihou, to blow Illforte out of the sky destroying him.

To Become A Vaizard Series: Staying at Kisuke Urahara's shop. He is asked to be Yasutora's sparring partner. Not wanting to do it, he is forced into it. Yasutora wants to become stronger, so Renji had no choice. Using Kisuke's underground training room, he uses his Final release and fights against Yasutora trying to take it easy on him but also help him get serious. Renji though did not know of the events happening up above as he was busy training Yasutora. Learning of Orihime's dissapearance, he gathered with Toushiro and listened to Shigekuni. Renji requested to go into Hueco Mundo to get Orihime back from the Arrancar and help Ichigo do so but was denied the option. He was told to come back to Soul Society with the others. Byakuya and Kenpachi opened a portal and Renji along with the others went through back to Soul Society leaving Ichigo on his own.

Hueco Mundo: Fight To Reclaim Series: Renji though had already planned in going back to help Ichigo get Orihime back and with Byakuya's permission, Renji and Rukia left together to the Living World and were annoyed that Ichgio had already left for Hueco Mundo. Catching him up, Renji and Rukia explained that they are his close friends and that of course they would come back. Now tagging along with Ichigo and his friends, when they finally reached Las Noches, Renji helped Ichigo make a ginat wall breaking into Las Noches.
