The saga starts off with the destruction of a small town, and the appearance of a small, icon of evil, the immortal Garlic Jr. He is laughing manically, whilst killing innocent people. Gohan swims in a small lake, hunting fish for his dinner. He laughs as he does so, throwing out a great deal of the aquatic creatures. He then climbs out, and sees a man dressed in black. It's Krillen! He tells Gohan that there's a party at Roshi's place later. Gohan is upset, because he doesn't think that he'll be able to go. Before the two of them can say much more, they are joined by an attractive, but dim-witted female, revealing herself to be Marron. She says hello, and she and Krillen say bye to Gohan, and walk back to the red, handsome car. As they speed into the distance, Gohan realizes that Krillen has finally got himself a girlfriend!
Meanwhile, Kami visits Piccolo, and realizing that the Namek has changed, he wonders if he wants to become the successor to his throne. Piccolo rejects the offer blatantly, but tells Kami to watch out. He has foreseen danger for the Earths God in some disturbing dreams that he has been having as of late. Over in Kami's lookout, Mr Popo idly waters the plants, vividly daydreaming, until he is distracted by the presence of some individuals. They fly around the place, destroying everything. They then reveal themselves to be the Spice Boys. Their leaders steps forward, and Mr Popo immediately recognises him - It's Garlic Jr, back from the deadzone!
Garlic explains that a small planet called the Machio star allowed him to become far stronger, and break out of the deadzone. Mr Popo attempts to run, but Garlics henchmen are too fast, and they catch him in some sort of web, then Garlic shrinks him, and places him inside a small bottle. Over at his house, Gohan requests that he be allowed to go to the party. His mom predictably says no, and Gohan walks off to his room dejectedly. He then sneaks off, and goes to Roshi's party anyway, on a small bird-type creature called Baby Icarus. He is upset at disobeying his mom, but at the same time, excited at going to the party.
Kami returns to his lookout, and sees the destruction. Garlic Jr steps out, and he fights Kami for a small while, with the Namek having the overall advantage. Before Kami can try to finish off his opponent though, the Spice Boys step in, and entangle him in the same web as they did with Popo. Giving him equal treatment, Garlic Jr shrinks Kami, and places him inside a small bottle, then places it in his pocket, next to Popo's bottle. They are both now smaller than Garlic's hand. Garlic Jr's minions then find a bottle called the Black Mist, and spread it across the Earth, with it making everyone who gets touched by it, turn into a merciless, evil fiend. It spreads to Gohan's destination, and he and Icarus narrowly avoiding it by flying into an isolated hole, away from the clouds path.
At Roshi's house, everyone is playing around, with the mist nearing. Marron and Krillen duck under water playfully, and the mist passes over them. They then coincidently pop up, after the mist has gone. They wonder where everyone has gone, and venture forth towards the house. Krillen sees Chi-Chi, and sees how angry she is, obviously finding out about Gohan deserting her, and coming over to tell him off. She looks different though, and suddenly attacks the bald midget. She has been taken over by the mist! Krillen doesn't know that, and continues to run. Everyone at Roshi's begin attacking Krillen and Marron, leaving them defenceless to stop it, because they don't want to harm their friends. Before much more fighting happens, the Spice Boys arrive. They tell Gohan that the only way to set his friends free from the mists spell is to get the sacred water in Kami's lookout. Gohan charges at them, but is easily beaten. Before they can though, a blast comes down. It's Piccolo! He fights the Spice Boys for a while, but in the end he is swamped by the affected people at Roshi's house too, and is bitten by them. Piccolo orders Krillen and Gohan to get the sacred water, and they do so obediently.
Gohan and Krillen arrive on top of Kami's lookout, but are intercepted by the four Spice Boys. They fight Gohan and Krillen, beating them both nearly senseless. Gohan gets really mad when one of them almost kills Krillen, and powers up, killing two of the Spice Boys outright with massive Masenko's. Before Gohan can attack Garlic, the little evil fiend pulls out the bottle with Kami trapped in it, making the kid power down. He then reveals Piccolo, who has changed after the bite. Garlic Jr tells him that he is now under his control, and allows the Namek to attack the boy. Piccolo beats Gohan senseless for a long time, until he is ready to finish him. Garlic Jr stops him, and says that he wishes to finish him off. Seizing the opportunity, Piccolo grabs the bottles, and throws them to Krillen, who catches them, and releases Kami and Popo. Piccolo reveals that he is a demon, and can't be affected by the bites, and that it was all a clever ploy, and he wasn't really evil. He then fights Garlic Jr, whilst Gohan and Krillen take on the remaining two Spice Boys, whilst Popo and Kami go to release the sacred water at the 7 winds of the world (Under the lookout). Gohan is informed about Piccolo's plan, and is annoyed that he was roughed up so bad, but knows it was necessary.
The fights that ensue are not one sided in the least. Gohan eventually manages to defeat the two Spice Boys, thinking that Krillen was dead (Just like the first time) with his anger taking control of him. Piccolo couldn't beat Garlic Jr because he kept fading, due to activity that was undergoing Kami, hurting him, and as the two Nameks are of one spirit, they both got hurt.
Garlic Jr. opens up the dead zone, and Gohan forms a KI shield, protecting everyone. Mr. Popo pours the sacred water in the wind funnel, spreading it across the world, whilst Kami distracts the guardians. Garlic's dead zone sucks up the roof, forcing Kami and Popo to the top, having to hold onto something. Piccolo and Krillen leave Gohan's shield, and tell him to destroy the star. He does so eventually, making Garlic lose all his power, and fall into his own Dead Zone, locked up for eternity. And so ends the saga, with good triumphing over evil. Everyone is rejuvenated back to their old, good selves.
