Garlic Jr finishes charging up, then a huge hole is ripped through the sky, with a swirling vortex pulling everything towards it. Piccolo and Krillen recognize is straight away as being the dead zone - A portal which warps you to a small, dark container which bares no escape. It begins to suck everything in, uprooting trees, and making the rubble shoot in. The heroes stand there, having to put their all into staying on the ground. Gohan forms a KI shield around them all, to help them resist it.
Garlic Jr puts more strength into the dead zone, knowing that Gohan can't hold it much longer. The kid continues to maintain the shield, but he knows that he can't hold it forever. Piccolo sees the star, and realizes that Garlic Jr is getting all his power from it, so he orders Gohan to destroy it. The kid doesn't want to though, because his friends would be suffering a high risk of plunging into the dead zone. He tells the fading Piccolo that he can't let his friends suffer the chance of dieing, so he continues to increase the power of the shield that he has created, hoping that it will do the trick for them all. Garlic Jr laughs incessantly as the dead zone gains power, making it harder for Gohan to keep the shield up around them.
Meanwhile, underneath the battlezone, Kami is behind held in the air by energy beams directed atr him by four past guardians. He is hurting badly. Mr Popo arrives on the scene, and begs with them to stop, but they just ignore him. The pressure of the beams increase, and Kami starts to slowly fade away, making Piccolo fade away too. Large blocks fall down from the ceiling, almost crushing Mr Popo. Eventually, Kami's assistant manages to persuade them to let his master go, and they drop him to the floor. Kami is very close to death now, and Mr Popo is trying to nurse him back to health. The past guardians of Earth shoot down one final beam, which revives Kami. They look at him menacingly, and Mr Popo says that this is the first time that they have ever let anyone live. Although Kami should feel proud, he insults the guardians instead, and they blast him through the ceiling, into the battlezone. Krillen sees Kami, and proclaims that he is back. Piccolo is standing up, and he tells them all that he knows.
Garlic Jr tries increasing the power behind the dead zone, and starts to suck them all in even further. Mr Popo and Kami hang on to a crumbled down pillar that is sticking out of the ground, hoping that they can survive this whole ordeal. As the power intensifies, as does Gohan's shield of energy, as he has to make it more powerful to nullify the effects of the dead zone. Piccolo shouts at Gohan to blast the planet, but still the kid won't, as he doesn't think that Krillen can survive on his own. Piccolo sees that Kami and Mr Popo have lost their grip, and are being sucked into the dead zone, so he shoots out of the barricade, and shoulder barges the two back down to the ground, where they grab hold of something, and manage to stay there. Piccolo is now being sucked in though, and he decides not to bother resisting it, but to attack Garlic Jr instead. He charges at him, but isn't prepared for the blast that he receives, as Garlic Jr shoots a purple ray out of his stomach, which Piccolo struggles to block. He is being sucked into the dead zone as he struggles to block the blast. Krillen sees that he is in trouble, and flies out of the shield too, shouting at Gohan to blast the star. Krillen then flies off to help Piccolo out. The Namek has managed to counter the blast with one of his own, but Garlic Jr merely catches it, then sends one of his own back, similar to the one shot out of his stomach, but shot out of his hand this time. Krillen dives in and blocks it for Piccolo, and the two of them demand that Gohan blows up the Macchio star. They are both being sucked in towards the red void that is the dead zone, and they can't resist the pull much more. Finally, Gohan makes up his mind to help out his friends, and charges up a powerful blast, and blows up the source of Garlic Jr's power. Space ripples because of the impact of the explosion, and Garlic Jr shrivels up into his normal form, then down into an even smaller version of himself, getting sucked into the dead zone. It finally stops, and folds up again, never to release Garlic Jr again.
Gohan screams out for Piccolo and Krillen, but can't find them. Kami and Mr Popo emerge from under some rocks, and Gohan is delighted that they survived. He runs over, and congratulates them on managing to do so well. Krillens voice then comes, and Gohan moves off the rock he is standing on, which is then pushed up, revealing a very bruised Krillen. HE and Gohan hug each other, overjoyed at them both surviving. Piccolo's voice then comes over from behind them, and they turn round. Sure enough, the Namekian is there, sitting on a rock, acting like his usual arrogant self. He commends Gohan on his fighting prowess, and tells him that he is a great friend. The three fly off, back to their respective lives, proud at being able to win over evil without Goku there for a change.
Gohan resumes his studying under the watchful eye of Chi-Chi, Piccolo goes back to his lonesome training and meditating deep in the abandoned plains, and the whole of Kame house are sunbathing, reading magazines, and generally having a good time.
Vegeta is still looking for Goku though, and he can almost smell him, he is that close. His venture continues, as he desperately wants to turn SSJ, and become stronger than his rival.
And so ends the Garlic Jr saga. Although this saga was only short, it provided some chances for Gohan, Krillen and Piccolo to prove themselves. With Garlic Jr out of the way, what evil could possibly overcome them?
