[FONT=Arial]Shounen Jump, which has been over-hyping and popularizing your favorite man brawling shounens for over 4 years is celebrating it’s 40th weekly anniversary in Japan. They are also nearing the magazines’ 5th birthday. As a special treat, in the August issue of Shounen Jump they released a poster which shows the outline of some characters and in every shounen Jump manga released by Viz they put collectible stickers that you can stick on aforementioned poster.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial]I actually have the poster, but lack the money (and the desire) to purchase shounen manga, though the stickers would be a very cool addition to stick on any laptop. On top of that, Shounen Jump is sponsoring a sweepstakes to win a trip to JUMP FIESTA in Japan. JUMP FIESTA boasts being the largest convention that anyone who ever liked shounen manga could ever want to attend. Sometime in November of 2007, there came a great news announcement from 20th Century Fox about a Live Action Dragonball movie. No speculations or rumours like there was in the past about Live Action Dragonball, just pure fact that one will be made. This was one of the biggest news announcements that the Dragonball/Z/GT fanbase had in a long while, but it got an extremely mixed—and mostly negative—reaction from fans. Over the past nine months, the more details and pictures that have been released, the more upset Dragonball purists have gotten. Now that the movie has finally entered into post production and MFG is here to present you with all the facts you need to know! Release Date: April 3rd 2009 Director: James Wong (Notable previous works: The One, Final Destination) Written by: Ben Ramsey (Notable previous works Love and a Bullet, the Big Hit) Plot: The story begins with a young humanoid boy named Goku, who discovers that he was sent to Earth to blend in and destroy our population but instead elects to protect it from an oncoming alien onslaught bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects. He seeks out upon his adoptive grandfather Grandpa Gohan's dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls. Of which he has one, in order to prevent the evil Lord Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world. And Goku's quest is to obtain the mystical Dragonballs before Piccolo does – IMDB Canon Cast: (Click Thumbnails for larger view)         Non-Canon Cast[INDENT]Texas Battle as Carey Fuller (A highschool bully) Shavon Kirksey as Emi (Classmate of Goku) Luis Arrietta as Weaver (Classmate and rumored friend of Goku) Richard Blake as Agundas Julian Sedgwick as Mr. Kingery [/INDENT]There has been hopeful speculation that other canon characters will have cameos in the film, but there have been no announcements of confirmation. In fact, James Marsters, who plays Piccolo in the film and has been the most talkative about it, states that a lot of characters and details were left out of the film due to time restraints. At a glance, the movie may not seem so bad, other than the obvious annoyances like the non-canon characters, an African American Master Mutaito, the lack of a blue haired Bulma, and a blond haired punk of a Yamcha. While the Yamcha may not be the one we know and love, the blond-haired biker style that is oh-so-popular among Asian youth seems like a good fit for the bandit. Also, it seems that originally Bulma was to wear a blue wig, but they trashed that and just put a single strand of blue in her hair. They did that most likely to keep this from being too much of a fantasy, you know, because having a green alien and magical dragonballs isn’t as extravagant as a blue haired woman. Okay, well, that ended up being a rather long list of obvious annoyances and that’s not even counting the plot deviations we don’t even know about yet. There is good news to this though, while we’ve seen pictures of almost all the canon cast, there’s no hint of a picture of Piccolo yet. It can be assumed that this is a bad omen, since maybe he looks so horrible that they are afraid it might completely put of some movie goers. Marsters; however, has admitted himself to be a fan of the series and states that Piccolo will be keeping true to his anime appearance. Then again, do they consider Goku true to his appearance? Since he obviously has some noticeable changes, but still is semi-true to his canon form. Will they change Piccolo like that too and still call him true to his anime appearance? While the general consensus about the movie is bordering dismal now, one can only hope they pushed back the release date to put in some really, really cool special effects that may lessen the pain of old school fans. Good or bad, either way the movie will most likely have a big release in April from hordes of curious anime fans. It’s one of those ‘You’ll see it just to see if it’s horrible’ sort of films.
